Deadline to Apply: Friday, January 16, 2015
Eligibility:
Students who apply for the Howard Baker Memorial Scholarship:
 Must be a graduating high school senior.
 Must reside in a household with electricity served by NGEMC.
 Must be enrolled in a full-time, accredited program attending high school in the county in which
he/she resides.
 Must be accepted by an accredited two- or four-year technical school, college, or university.
(If student is not yet accepted, this information will be required at the time the scholarship is
awarded.)
 Must fully complete the NGEMC Howard Baker Memorial Scholarship application.
Judging:
Scholarships will be judged by a non-biased panel on a point and percentage system including
community involvement, school/leadership roles, academics and essay questions. The applicants
with the top points will be selected as the recipients.
 40 % - Academics and scholastic achievement
 30 % - School and community involvement and leadership roles
 30 % - Essay question answers
Announcement and Awards Recognition:
Scholarship recipients will be announced in April or May by letter to all applicants. Certificates will
be presented to each recipient during that school’s scheduled awards ceremony, usually in May.
The announcement of the recipients will also be made in the June or July NGEMC newsletter which
appears in the Georgia Magazine.
